I was a sceptic before I drove the LEAF. I thought it was an expensive, limited way of getting around. However, driving it proves that it’s a very expensive way of getting around a small area. But that’s not the point of it. Read more

It’s hard to be objective about a car you’ve wanted to drive since you were 12 years old. Even harder when it has the stopping power of a bright orange Lotus Elise. Read more

I arrived at Silverstone over half an hour early on the Monday morning of the test. Guided towards a cafe attached to our base for the day – known as the ‘Driving Experience Centre’ – I got a cup of tea and once more buried my nose into the Blue Book in the hope I could absorb a morsel or two of extra information for the day ahead. There’s an old phrase that say “a picture paints a thousand words”. I’ve always found this phrase somewhat misleading, because who ‘paints’ words? And just how on earth do you quantify that sort of thing? Read more

We were taken by minibus to a section of open tarmac with a coned course laid out, and two Renault Meganés perched on caster wheels. The idea behind the latter is to simulate oversteer, and while the otherwise bog-standard Meganés were driven by the front wheels only, believe me – they are seriously tail-happy. Read more

The next day I went to book my licence exam, known as the ARDS (Association of Racing Drivers) test. I knew I wanted to do it at Silverstone. Call me fickle but if I’m going to start somewhere, it might as well be the British GP venue. There were two dates available in the coming months, but I had a prior engagement on the April one with a car company in another part of the world. May 9th it was, then. Read more

We had a minor dilemma at Podisode HQ. Phil, Alex and their mate Adam had to get to Cambridge for a 'do'. We had two seats going in the Lotus and three people. Can you see where this is going yet..? Picture a world where there’s no need for a boot. No need to take large volumes of stuff with you on your journeys. Smaller parking spaces litter the streets. And we’re taxed for the size of our cars. That would make the Chevrolet Cruze one of the best cars... in the world. Read more

Hello. We have a new format now, we’re doing news Podisodes at the end of a month and drives around halfway through (depending on what/when we drive). There is a reason for this – we’re all super mega hyper busy. We didn’t want to ditch the Podisode, but it wasn’t sustainable at the rate it was going. Please understand that we didn’t tak the decision to do this lightly, either. It was a bugger to make and a horrible thing to admit to, but we’re human and simply couldn’t be in more than eight places at once (as one of us had to be at one point – messy). We’ve been humbled by the requests for more content and for more Podisodes and hopefully we’ll be back up to snuff at some point soon. Watch this space, as it were. Read more
